A taxi in Hong Kong can be spotted at all hours, day or night, in nearly every location. Some areas have designated taxi stands, but hailing a cab from the side of the road is permitted in most places.
Hong Kong taxis come in three colors: red, green, and blue. The fare is $18 for the first 2 kilometers and then $1.40 every 200 meters after that.
Urban taxis are red and can go everywhere in Hong Kong except for Lantau Island (with the exception of the airport). Green taxis are limited to the new territories and the airport. Blue taxis are only seen on Lantau Island. If tunnels are used during any journey then the passenger will be expected to cover the fee.
