Hong Kong Food

The Chinese have a saying: People think eating is as important as heaven. As a Hong Kong expat you will come to know just how true this is. After all, the most common greeting is, “Have you eaten yet?” – a salutation some say came from a time when food was scarce, and saying one had eaten meant they were in a good enough situation to care for themselves and their family. Whatever the origin of the gesture, there is no debating how important food is in Chinese culture.
Hong Kong people spend hours enjoying dim sum or yam cha with friends and family, with other meetings and daily activities being put on the back burner. There is also no shortage of dessert shops and all-night food vendors. It is very evident that food plays a major role in Hong Kong life.
Aside from being the basis for communal gatherings, food plays a major role in managing health with the traditional Chinese Medicine practice of food therapy and following yit-hei principles to regulate the inner body.
